My guilty pleasure is watching any and all home decor, home renovation, decorating inspiration, or furniture restoration videos on YouTube. Do I remodel homes? No. Do I buy new decor every season? No! As much as I would love to repaint my walls like the people I subscribe to, I have to bring myself back to reality and remember one very, very important fact: I rent my apartment.
Your design prowess is tested in a rented space. It’s rare to find a landlord or management company that will allow you to repaint or drill holes in the walls. This forces renters to come up with creative solutions for decorating their apartments. I almost gave up hope – until I stumbled upon a new category of videos: “Renter-friendly.”
I promise it’s not just command strips and throw pillows. It may be hard to believe, but you can get a professional look for half the price and none of the commitment. To also make you a believer, I collected six of my favorite renter-friendly design videos. These videos tackle everything from kitchens and bathrooms to DIYs and lighting. Hopefully, you’ll feel as inspired as I did!
Peel and stick tile has to be one of the best renter-friendly inventions. Redo your kitchen on a budget and have YouTuber Drew Scott teach you how to make DIY shelving.
If you’re not as daring as YouTuber Posh Pennies to try peel-and-stick wallpaper in your space, she also gives some great tips about elevating your lighting.
Small bathroom? No problem. YouTuber Macenna Lee will show you how to make your bathroom a cozy oasis, including making your wall art.
Amazon has everything you need, but you just need to know where to look. YouTuber Alli shares some great organization hacks in this video and thinks of every little thing – including outlet covers!
If you love the simplicity and affordability of IKEA, this is the video for you. Watch Rachel from the YouTube channel The Sorry Girls take a blank (literally) canvas and make it her personality.
Don’t let renting your apartment scare you from trying new things in your space. You may be limited with your lease, but that doesn’t mean your style needs to be compromised.
If you’re scared of furnished apartments because they’re not your style or are overwhelmed by a blank canvas, check out Ori Semi-Furnished apartments. With Ori, your apartment comes with only the essentials: a bed, a mattress, and a sofa or desk. The best part? Its sleek design allows any renter to add their personal touches to their space.
